Wooden it be nice to find a pub that your kids will love? Come on inn.
To parents, the Outside Inn is a cheap and cheerful pub where you can grab a quick bite of lunch or dinner. But to kids, it is so much more than that - it's paradise.
The pub, tucked away in Glenbervie business park in Larbert, near Falkirk, does exactly what its name suggests - it brings the outdoors inside.
You enter the restaurant over a wooden bridge, which leads to a spacious eating area sprinkled with trees, waterfalls, long grasses and outdoor-style pathways.
What kid would not be enchanted at the thought of having an indoor picnic in such a fantasy world? Our two can't get enough of the place and we often give in.
They have a fab value-formoney kids' menu and the massive Fuzzy Ed's wooden play area adds to its parental appeal as you end up with at least half an hour of peace. The food is tasty enough and the menu is extensive, so you can always find something to tickle the tastebuds - whether it's the Sunday carvery or a quick snack off the Light Bites menu.
Their signature sizzling skillets area must-try and they do a great morning fry-up if you are in search of a morning-afterthe-night-before pick-me-up. My husband is a big fan of seafood and his go-to dish is the Ultimate Catch, which is a veritable smorgasbord of oceanic fare, whereas I prefer a nice steak with all the trimmings.
The family pub/restaurant is also a favourite with travelling businessmen.
And it's a great venue for kids' parties and, with a special Golden Years menu on offer, it's a haven for the over-60s too.
Cordon bleu it certainly isn't but, if you want a pub that delivers exactly what it says on the tin, head for the Outside Inn - your bairns will think all their Christmases have come at once.
