Wood components offer buyers a choice.



More and more companies are streamlining their inventory by purchasing wood components. To help them, WOOD & WOOD PRODUCTS has added this chapter featuring 50 manufacturers of drawers, doors and other wood components. An increasing number of cabinetmakers have come to appreciate the benefits of purchasing doors and drawers. Because of this, WOOD & WOOD PRODUCTS has for the first time expanded its productivity handbook to include these components. In the following roundup, drawers, doors and mouldings from 50 different companies are reviewed.

Cabinet doors

Membrane pressed kitchen cabinet doors, drawer fronts and mouldings from Ilcam USA Inc. come in ultra high gloss white. The doors are guaranteed not to yellow and can be easily wiped clean, the company says. The product line, imported from Italy, is completely stocked in the U.S. for immediate shipment in small or large quantities. 501

National Products Inc. offers combination sets which include a cloth-backed tambour door with solid wood handpulls along with a Hoffco spring tension track system which eliminates stocking and binding. Solid wood and wood veneer doors are offered in red oak, maple, hickory and cherry. 502

The Desert Pine Series of custom cabinet doors and drawer fronts available from The Cabinet Door Co. are 13/16 in. thick and are made of distressed pine material to specifications provided by the cabinetmaker or architect. Doors are offered in solid raised panel, squared or arched styles, the company says. 503

The Cabinet Factory offers doors and drawer fronts, unfinished or prefinished, in over 40 styles. Key features include: timely delivery, uniformity, elimination of wastes, no quantity limits and less tooling cost. 504

Donald Dean & Sons Inc. supplies cabinet doors, drawer fronts, front frame stock and mouldings to the kitchen cabinet industry. Raised and flat panel doors are manufactured in a variety of wood species, including: red oak, white oak, cherry, maple, paper birch, red birch, natural birch, ash, walnut, hickory and knotty pine. 505

Decore-ative Specialties has introduced a new line of custom cabinet doors and drawer fronts called the "Pacific Series." The new line features six different designs, three in solid raised panel and three in recessed panel doors. The red oak doors are 3/4 in. thick with 2 1/4-in. thick stiles and rails. They are available in standard lipped, finger pull, 30-in. back bevel, no lip or without any lip or detail. 506

Door-Master Corp. produces custom high-pressure laminated raised panel doors, and also manufactures a full line of solid wood raised panel doors. 507

Dynatech Industries has introduced a red oak custom cabinet door. The tongue and groove joined top and side rails measure 2 1/4 in. wide by 3/4 in. thick. Features include: an exterior cove contour and interior bead contour. The square center has a raised center surrounded by cove routing. A wide range of edge and center treatments are available. 508

LeMica Corp. is now offering its full line of custom doors clad in any of Wilsonart's 110 Color Quest laminates, all in solid colors. The full line of doors includes seven different door styles in raised panel or frame-n-panel designs. Colors can be mixed between the panels and frames to provide additional possibilities, according to the company. 509

Norman Custom Cabinets Inc. offers unfinished doors and drawer fronts in 24 styles that are 3/4 in. thick and made in 1/16-in. increments. Wood species include: white ash, birch, cherry, red oak, pecan, knotty pine and walnut. 510

More than 30 custom-sized cabinet doors and drawer front designs are available from Quality Doors, either finished or unfinished, with three stains from which to choose. Leaded glass inserts are custom made to size in six designs and three styles of glass. 511

Southeastern Door and Drawer Inc. specializes in custom raised panel doors for any size job. Utilizing the latest technology, the company guarantees fast, reliable service and reasonable pricing. 512

WoodTek cabinet doors offer the Heritage Collection, Americana Series and Woodline Designs in red oak, white oak, alder, ash and walnut wood species. All WoodTek door designs are available in matching frames for glass inserts. The company also provides double arch options on all arch-style doors at an additional cost. 513

D.F. Enterprises offers cabinet doors, drawers in all sizes and quantities, the company says. The company uses red oak, cherry, walnut, maple, ash and birch. 514


Andover Wood Products Inc. produces smoothly moulded, nosed or grooved drawer sides. The standard thickness is 7/16 in. or special thicknesses can be custom made. Hardwoods, cut to customer specifications, are available in 8 foot lengths. 515

With BHK of Americas' new no minimum premier drawer program the company's line of Premier Mitrefold Drawers can be shipped in any size or quantity within 72 hours. The prefabricated drawers are made of extruded PVC around a particle-board core and use any type of drawer slides. 516

Wood Cabinet Components, a div. of States Industries Inc. offer RTA drawers, cabinet end and face panels, door inserts, and finished and edgebanded shelving. Panel stock includes all domestic and most imported species of veneered hardwood plywood. 517

Outwater Plastic/Industries offers a complete line of ultra high-gloss, white membrane pressed cabinet doors, drawer fronts and mouldings. The drawer fronts, doors and glass door frames come in over 100 sizes. Each has a 3/4-in. overall thickness, 1/4 in. inside radius and OG edges. 518

Valendrawers' custom drawer systems features all wood components that are interchangeable and can be assembled in just one minute, the company says. Other advantages of the drawers include: the strength of their chuck and bore joinery and the durability of their 6-level catalyzed polyurethane finish. 519

Eagle Woodworking offers solid maple dovetailed drawers in custom-sized widths and depths; 4-in., 6-in. and 10-in. heights are standard. The drawers come with 1/4-in. maple veneer ply bottoms. 520

Eurodrawer has drawer systems for a wide range of applications, including: bullnose or flat top; dowels or French dovetails; custom-mitered; custom-cut, and custom-clad in a variety of colors and wood grain patterns. The company says its drawer systems are snag-free, covered in durable wipe-clean vinyl, easy to assemble and glide smoothly. 521

Keystone Wood Specialties Inc. has added dovetailed drawer box components to its full line of cabinet doors, drawer fronts and accessories. Available in custom sizes and made of solid red oak, the drawer boxes can be ordered in any quantity and are offered primarily as unassembled components. 522

The Sheerglide PVC drawer from L.B. Plastics Inc. is available with various runner systems in six heights and in colors of black, camel, dark brown, almond and white. Custom cut and pre-punched to fit exact drawer size requirements, it is shipped unassembled, minimizing freight costs and maximizing storage space. 523

Polydrawer, a product of Poly Plast Inc., is a hardwood chip, vinyl-clad drawer line offered in six types and available in a wide range of sizes. Clean edges, perfect mitres, exact bottom grooves in durable, 8 mil vinyl are offered in the 15 colors most often chosen by consumers and designers, the company says. 524

United Technologies Components Div. has reintroduced its Alma Mod-U-Line II file drawer system. Standard colors to be offered include: black, putty, beige and white. 525

Witmer Industries is a source of hardwood dovetailed drawers. The company says its prices are competitive, especially in large volume orders. 526

Other wood components

Adams Wood Products Inc. caters to the small- to medium-sized furniture maker who requires parts made on a small-production basis, the company says. Items in stock include: complete RTA Queen Anne dining chairs; Queen Anne legs for chairs and tables; claw and ball legs for chairs and tables; and table bases with claw feet. 527

The ornaments and mouldings from Artistic Woodworking are embossed from designs used in the late Victorian era and early 1900s. They are embossed on gumwood, or a choice of cabinet wood, including oak, walnut and cherry. The company also offers custom work using the customer's design. 528

Klise Manufacturing. Co. offers decorative wood mouldings. The mouldings are available embossed or carved. 529

LewiSohn Sales Co. Inc. offers laminated dimension blanks made from Appalachian hardwoods. Butcher blocks come in red and white oak and maple with thicknesses of 7/8 in. to 2 3/4 in. and widths of 18 in., 25 in. and 36 in. 530

Northway Industries Inc. offers laminated panels and component parts. No matter what the specifications, the company says it can supply quality components on time and on budget. 531

Precision Panel Technology Corp. offers complete 5/8 in. and 3/4 in. component systems which are designed to bring a profitable method with minimal capital investment. The company services the commercial, institutional and residential markets. 532

R&J Manufacturing Co. manufactures ladder rungs, chair dowels and blanks for drum sticks. The company is also an NDMA member. 533

Sparta Spoke Factory offers chair parts, mouldings, turnings, machined parts, sub assemblies or complete units and offers a 100 percent usable parts guarantee if it does not meet the customer's written specifications. 534

The King Cutting Station from King Things Inc. features a drain trough, six slotted knife scabbard, double sided cutting board and drain hose. 535

Marlite's new Add-A Groove can be put anywhere without the need to install entire slot wall panels. It can be used as a graphic element or for a variety of available slot wall merchandising hooks, brackets, shelves and more, the company says. 536

Flexible Tambour from Flexible Materials Inc. comes available in solid wood, veneer, metal, mylar or laminate. Each tambour is backed for ultimate flexibility, the company says. 537

Hendricks Woodworking offers solid wood circular crown mouldings in arch top and quarter circle applications, in most wood species. Customers can choose from stock patterns or the company says it can match moulding profiles from samples. The mouldings are formed by bent lamination, the company says. 538

Houck Industries' E-Z Access shelf kit is completely assembled requiring only a screwdriver for installation. It is prefinished in clear 1/2-in. solid hardwood with a White E-Z clean bottom or optional wood bottom. Three sizes are available for minimum 12-in., 15-in. and 18-in. openings. The standard depth is 20 in. 539

Warvel Products Inc. manufactures custom moulded or standard curved plywood components, including chair bow backs, side frames, stool backs and table rims with hardwood veneers. Parts are available ripped to width or completely machined and ready for assembly. 540

L.I. Laminates' Deco Shapes are curved plywood and fiberboard forms. The fiberboard geometric shapes available are squares, rectangles, triangles, hexagons and pie cuts. 541

Roberts Plywood Co.'s Curv-ations are finely crafted smooth finish rounds, half rounds and full circle sections. Diameters range from 4 in. to 36 in. and half rounds range from 2 in. to 60 in. Heights up to 102 in. and thicknesses of 3/4 in. and 5/8 are available. 542

Woodcraft Mouldings manufactures prefinished and profile-wrapped custom moulding for various industries. The company offers a variety of wraps from high-pressure laminates to veneer on a full spectrum of cores including PVC and metal extrusions as well as MDF and fingerjointed wood. 543

CabParts says it produces high-quality, frameless modular-sized cabinet boxes, drawer boxes and adjustable shelves that are easily assembled. These boxes are manufactured from 5/8-in. or 3/4-in. thick panels, with both faces surfaced with thermofused melamine. 544

Unique, specially-crafted Pierced Panels in solid copper, solid brass and tin-finished aluminum for use as door inserts in kitchen, bath or specialty cabinets are available from The October Co. Each panel has its own distinctive antique finish, adding a subtle patina that reportedly captures the essence of an art that is ages old. Two standard sizes are available -- 18 in. by 30 in. and 15 in. by 24 in. 545

The Tech-3 system from Techtonic Corp. has been designed to provide the crisp, modern Techtonic drawer appearance in a convenient KD format. This high impact material features a modern blue-white color and a surface smoothness which combine to eliminate all sanding, rubbing and other finishing. One inventory of drawer material will provide compatibility with all types, styles and finishes of furniture, the company says. 546

EuroCurv I & II panels from VT Industries Inc. offer increased versatility and custom capabilities. Panels can be used for: cabinet and casework door/drawer fronts, shelves, desk, credenza and counter tops, table and bar tops. Panel length is 10 ft, panel widths are 32.5 in., panel thickness is 5/8-in. particleboard and total thickness is 11/16 in. Surfaces are made of high-pressure decorative laminate. 547

Ralph Wilson Plastics Co.'s Perma-Edge conventional and bevel mouldings, as well as mouldings with solid wood options, reportedly make it easier for designers and fabricators to create customized edge treatments on built-ins, furniture and countertops. The Snap-On-Edge system reportedly saves labor time through a special tongue-in-groove process. Perma-Edge wood mouldings are available in seven wood species. 548

Woodcraft Industries Inc. manufactures solid hardwood components for volume users in the cabinet industry. The company's primary products include square and cathedral solid wood doors, face frames, door stiles and rails, panels and drawer fronts. The species offered are: red oak, white oak, hard maple, soft maple and cherry. 549

Wrapped mouldings from Therm-O-Web Inc. are available in a variety of overlays including real wood, paper or vinyl in a wide range of colors and species for a variety of applications. All overlays are laminated to wood, fiberboard or particleboard substrates for a durable, permanent bond, the company says. 550
