British provider of financial services Barclays Bank PLC on Wednesday announced the launch of the Barclays Women in Leadership Exchange Traded Notes (ETNs) on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) under the ticker symbol WIL.

ETNs are anticipated to begin trading on Thursday 10 July 2014 and to celebrate the launch of ETNs and the Women in Leadership index family, Barclays will ring the opening bell at the NYSE on 10 July 2014.

To be included in the index companies must, amongst other things, have a female chief executive officer and/or at least 25% female members on their board of directors. The index is intended to provide exposure to US based listed companies which have a gender-diverse leadership and which meet market and capitalisation and trading volume thresholds.

Head of EFS Sales, Americas, Johnny Wu, commented "As with all of our investable index products, Barclays will make the Women in Leadership index available via several investable formats, including total return swaps and structured notes as well as the ETNs. We are excited by the prospect of being able to further the conversation on the need for leading companies to have more diverse leadership representation."
