Women Development Week being celebrated from March 01.
Seminars would be held from March 01 for improving the social status of women and giving them more effective role in decision making in more than 256 government colleges and 35 private and public sector universities of the province.
Various ceremonies will be held in connection with public awareness campaign of women rights at district and divisional levels on 5th, 6th and 7th March in which elected public representatives of concerned districts, welfare organizations and office bearers of concerned government departments and prominent women will participate.
This decision was taken in a cabinet committee meeting held to review the arrangements regarding functions in connection with World Women Day presided over by Provincial Minister for Education Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan.
Provincial Ministers, Syed Haroon Sultan Bokhari, Begum Hameeda Waheedudin, Begum Zakia Shahnawaz, Members Assembly, Shaista Pervez Malik, Hina Pervez Butt, Tahayya Noon, Secretary Women development Irum Bokhari, Secretary Social Welfare Fehmeeda Mushtaq besides Vice Chancellor LCW University Dr. Sabeeha Mansoor, SP Traffic Sohail Chaudhry, ASP Garden Town Nida Omar Chatha, Director Law Department Punjab Mohsin Abbas Syed, Additional Secretary (Academic) Higher Education Department Punjab Ali Bohadar Qazi, Deputy Secretary Chief Minister's Office Shahid Iqbal and renowned intellectual Dr. Saira Shah attended the meeting.
The meeting decided that a new amendment draft of law would be approved for the protection of women rights in the Punjab assembly on 8th March after which a function will be held in the honour of prominent women rendering invaluable services in their departments throughout the province at 3.00 pm at Alhamra Cultural Complex, Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.
The function will be presided over by Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif. Women excellence award ceremony will be held on March 09 at Governor's House Lahore. Chairman Cabinet Committee Rana Mashhood Ahmed said that Punjab government had introduced women package in 2012 which include various amendments for the protection of women rights.
Speaking on the occasion Vice Chancellor LCW University Dr. Sabeeha Mansoor demanded to set up Lady Waqar un Nisa Noon Chair this year on the pattern of Benazir Bhutto Chair during the last regime at Lahore College for Women University.
