Woman robbed of pension.

A 75-YEAR-OLD woman was robbed of pounds 100 just after collecting her pension by a thief who pulled her over by yanking the strap of her handbag.

The woman was walking back up Alexandra Road after calling at the post office in King Edward Road, Hillfields.

Det Con Claire Arden, based at Little Park Street, said the woman was near the top of the road when she felt a tug on her shoulder-bag strap, which she had wrapped around her right wrist for safety.

The robber persisted in tugging as he jumped round in front of the frightened woman. Eventually she was pulled over and the bag came free. The man grabbed it and ran off towards Coronation Road.

Inside was about pounds 100, pension book, bus pass and keys.

The woman suffered bruising to her arm and wrist, and was left shaken by the incident at about 10am on Thursday.

Police also want to trace the blue and black leather shopping bag, which has press stud fasteners at the top, for forensic tests.

They believe the robber may have discarded the bag close to the scene of the robbery.

Anyone with information can contact CID at Little Park Street on 024 7653 9010, or call Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555111.
