Woman hit by man in unprovoked street attack.

A 22-YEAR-OLD woman was left in shock after being punched in the face by a man in an unprovoked attack in Cramlington. The woman was walking along the footpath known locally as the 'Black Path' on Crow Hall Lane, near Cramlington train station, late at night, when she was approached by a hooded man.

The attacker started talking to the woman, before punching her and running off into the woods, leaving her with a swollen face.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the assault, which happened at 10.25pm, on Thursday, October 6. The offender was wearing dark coloured clothing, with a hooded jacket.

A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said: "A 22-year-old woman walking on the path was approached by a man who spoke to her and then punched her in the face before making off towards the nearby wooded area.

"Police are appealing for witnesses, anyone who was in the area and who may have seen or heard anything suspicious, is asked to contact police."

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, quoting reference number 092568D/16 or ring the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
