Woman denies terror charges.

A 26-YEAR-OLD woman has denied travelling to Syria to join Islamic State (IS) and posting tweets encouraging others to commit terrorist acts.

Tareena Shakil, from Burton-upon-Trent in Staffordshire, originally from Sparkbrook, will face a ten-day trial next year after pleading not guilty to two charges at Birmingham Crown Court.

Shakil entered her pleas via a prison video link. The charges allege that she was a member of Isis between October 23, 2014, and January 9, this year, and used Twitter to encourage members of the public to "commit, prepare or instigate" acts of terrorism between September 30 and October 20, 2014.

The defendant, formerly of Curtis Way, Burton, was remanded in custody to stand trial on January 11.
