Woman 'fled' after friends overdosed in Dubai.

A youngwoman has gone on trial accused of taking heroin along with two friends who later died of an overdose.

The Emirati, aged 22, was arrested following the deaths at a house in Al Rashidiya. She denies possessing and taking the drug and failing to report the deaths.

Dubai Court of First Instance heard that police received a call about a suspected overdose on August 30, 2014.

Patrols rushed to the scene and found the two dead men on the floor. The brother of one of the dead men was with them.

A police officer testified: "The woman was arrested and she said that she was with the two the night before. They were in a shopping mall and met another Emirati, who they got drugs from.

"They went to the house and consumed heroin and then she went to the bathroom. When she came out she saw the pair on a bed and she thought they were sleeping."

The court was told she took a smaller amount of the drug. The woman believed the two fell sleep because of the drugs and she went to bed in the second room.

When she woke in the morning she noticed they were in the same position.

The police officer continued: "She was terrified when she realised they were dead. She called a friend who came and picked her up but she didn't inform police."

She later told a friend what had happened, who then phoned the brother of one of the dead men.

Police tracked down the man from the mall, a 27-year-old Emirati, who allegedly sold the drugs.

The woman is on trial for possessing 0.18 grams and taking the drug. She was also charged with not informing police about a crime.

Her co-accused is on trial for dealing. He denies the charges.

The trial was adjourned until next month.
