Woman, 94, died after fall.

A verdict of accidental death has been recorded on a 94-year-old woman who died in hospital after a fall at her home.

Blanche Jones, of Gersanws, Cefn Coed, Merthyr Tydfil, was taken to Prince Charles Hospital last June after she broke her right leg in the fall and died more than a month later in hospital.

Her son, retired miner Ernest Jones, told an inquest his mother, a widow, had lived in Merthyr for 70 years.

He said he and his wife acted as her carers after she suffered a stroke, which then restricted her mobility so she had to use a Zimmer frame.

Although they took her out after her stroke, for the past eight years she had not left the house.

Dr Emyr Wyn Jones, consultant pathologist at Prince Charles Hospital, told the Merthyr inquest Mrs Jones had deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and clots had reached her lungs. Coroner Phillip Walters recorded a verdict of accidental death due to pulmonary embolism.
