Woman's second marriage annulled in divorce row.

A WOMAN'S second marriage has been annulled after it was revealed that she was still married to her first husband.

The Supreme Jaffari Appeals Court yesterday upheld a ruling by the Jaffari Sharia Court to terminate the second marriage contract.

The Iraqi woman married a Bahraini man in 1997 and acquired Bahraini citizenship.

However, in December 2016 the husband found that he was registered as a divorcee when his anti-inflation allowance was cut.

He also discovered that according to the Sharia Court his wife had obtained a divorce ruling from Iraq in April 2016, but continued to live with him.

"She originally filed for divorce in Bahrain in December 2015. When the court rejected her application she filed for divorce in Iraq in March 2016 and got a ruling in her favour," said the first husband's lawyer Hameeda Al Qaissi.

"A day after the three-month waiting period to get remarried, she married another Bahraini man. But technically she was still married to her first husband.

"She would meet her second husband in the home of the first husband while the latter was away.

"This continued until the two men met by accident leading to a brawl landing both of them in a police station."

The first husband then filed a case to have the second marriage nullified and the Jaffari Sharia Court ruled in his favour.
