Witco reached a definitive agreement to buy Schering AG's Industrial Chemicals and Natural Substances divisions for a total cash consideration of DM 660. The deal is subject to regulatory approvals but is expected to be completed by the fourth quarter. The Industrial Chemicals Division produces organo-metallic compounds, with a main production site in Bergkamen, Germany, and plants in the United States, France and Italy. The Natural Substances Division produces and markets oleochemicals and specialty surfactants for a variety of industrial uses. Production facilities are located in Steinau, Germany; Mapleton, IL; and Janesville, WI; as well as the U.K., Spain and Ecuador.
