Wish funds to boost group's performance; COMMUNITY Today we talk to Angela-Marie School of Theatre Dance.
What will you do with this year's Wish money? It costs our group thousands of pounds to provide costumes for all of our pupils so any money raised from Wish will be really appreciated and go towards our funds for our next school production.
Tell us about your group.
We are a dance school based in Lobley Hill and for the last 13 years have been providing all children from age three years and over and adults in the community the opportunity to dance. We offer classes in ballet, tap, modern jazz, theatre and freestyle. Children have the opportunity to learn to dance in a fun yet constructive environment. All pupils take part in our school productions which gives them the chance to perform on stage for family and friends.
Who does your group help? We help the children and adults in our local communities. We have children attending from not just Lobley Hill but also Gateshead, Whickham, Sunniside and Dunston. By fundraising we are also helping the children's parents as the financial aspect is eased for them.
What kind of activities take place at your group? Various disciplines of dance including ballet, tap, theatre craft, modern jazz, freestyle and adult tap.
What is your group's proudest moment to date? We had a fabulous show in June this year which left everyone, pupils and their families, on such a high. Our costumes were amazing and this was partly due to the previous Wish campaign we had taken part in. It's such an amazing feeling as a teacher to stand in the wings and watch all my wonderful pupils singing and dancing and having an opportunity to shine.
Why should someone join your group? Everyone should have the opportunity to dance. It's an activity we believe is open to all regardless of ability or age.
What makes you proud to be from the North East? Sense of community and belonging.
