Wisdom Import Sales enjoys record growth in 1990

One of the West Coast's largest beer importers enjoyed the best level of growth of any major importing company throughout the United States in 1990, achieving a 14.3-percent sales increase, according to the importer's president, Manuel Rubiralta of Wisdom Import Sales Co. Total sales for the importer topped six million cases.

"Wisdom as a company had a truly outstanding year," Rubiralta said, "with our total volume exceeding last year's record volume by 14.3 percent. We're very pleased with our company's performance, especially with Tecate beer, our top-selling brand, which achieved extremely strong 17.5-percent growth. This is far and away Tecate's best-ever performance since the brand was introduced into the U.S. in 1970."

According to Rubiralta, the fastest growing of all of Wisdom's lines was its Penafiel products--mineral spring water and eight fruit-flavored drinks.

During 1990, Wisdom also consolidated its national distribution network for England's Watneys brands. Wisdom received national sales and marketing responsibilities for Watneys in 1989, and has since introduced new family-look labeling and packaging for the brands.
