Winter laughter; COMEDY.

TEESSIDE is in for a bundle of laughs over the next few months - just right for something to look forward to as we plough through the January days.

Plenty of giggles both sides of the Tees are on the cards with the return of Teesside's ever popular monthly comedy clubs plus a string of big-name comics joining the mix.

Here's a quick round-up of where to catch all the laughs in the next few months: | Saturday, January 16, sees the return of the Big Mouth comedy clubs to Middlesbrough and Stokesley.

In the Boro, the evening is MCed by Danny McLoughlin and features Sam Avery, Christian Reilly and Tom Lucy - comedy fans will know Christian from his work with the likes of Rich Hall and Bill Bailey. Tickets are PS12.50 for the Middlesbrough Town Hall show, 18-plus. Town Hall box office 01642 729729.

And in usual Big Mouth style, Christian and Sam will also appear at the Stokesley show in the town hall on the same evening with a special guest MC to be confirmed. Tickets PS15 from Stokesley Town Hall, Browns Newsagents and Co-op High Street.

| Brand new year, brand new season at Catch 22 where the first night of the new year kicks off on Friday, January 29, featuring Alex Boardman and John Lynn with the evening MC'd by Jason Cook. Tickets are PS10/PS12, age 18-plus, arconline.co.uk.

| Ever popular controversial Teesside comic Roy Chubby Brown heads for the Forum Theatre, Billingham on Friday and Saturday, January 29 and 30.

Never one to hold back from sharing his views, he promises to be as politically incorrect as ever. Tickets for Chubby's new show are PS20, www.forumtheatrebillingham.

| Teessider Patrick Monahan also returns with his new standup show, The Disco Years, at the Forum Theatre on Friday, February 5. Fresh from the panto season at the Forum, he's fully charged with memories and reminiscences in a laugh out loud show that promises plenty of playful audience interaction. Tickets PS10/PS12, www.forumtheatrebillingham.co.uk | Ed Byrne is Outside, Looking In at Darlington Civic Theatre on Saturday, February 20. The Irish comic continues his nationwide tour with a North-east date - where he'll reflect on everything from life as a father and husband to feminism and more in his observational stand-up.

Telly credits include the likes of Mock The Week and Live at the Apollo and the comic continues to be a serious outdoors enthusiast - the past two years have seen appearances on Dangerous Roads (BBC Two), Volcano Live (BBC Two) and he co-presented Dara & Ed's Big Adventure. Tickets PS18.50/PS20, www.darlingtoncivic.co.uk | February 26 will see the Catch 22 Ale & Arty Special. Comedy? At a Beer Festival? Truly a magnificent thing.

Huge Catch 22 favourite Matt Reed will host what is stacking up to be a fantastic Friday night starring Andy Robinson, Larry Dean and Tom Lucy. Tickets are PS15, including entry to the beer festival.

| And taking us into spring and summer are more big names. April 12 sees stand up Omid Djalili perform at Arc PS22, May 14 sees Rob Beckett bring his Mouth of The South tour North, PS14.
