Winning words.

Budding North East poets are invited to put pen to paper to win a pounds 1,000 prize.

Entry is free and poems must be about life in your home town or area. Up to three entries of up to 20 lines and 160 words each can be submitted and the organisers, United Press, will then pick around 240 for publication in an anthology next year.

The closing date is December 31, 2005, and poems must be sent to Local Poems, United Press Ltd, Admail 3735, London, EC1B 1JB.
