SAN JOSE -- Mentor Graphics announced the winners of its 18th Annual PCB Technology Leadership Awards at a banquet in coordination with PCB Design Conference West. The program is open to any design created with Mentor Graphics PCB tools, including Board Station, Expedition and Pads.

The awards were presented during a banquet held at the Tech Museum of Innovation in San Jose. The competition attracted submissions from 15 countries.

This year's winner for the Best Overall Design and Best Design for the Data Communications category was Steven Tipping, a PCB designer with Agere Systems in the U.K. Tipping's winning entry, the WaveLAN WL1141 PHY module, combined RF and baseband functions for Wi-Fi 802.11b.

For the second year in a row a design from Advanced Micro Devices took home the award for the computer category.
