Winners of PP&L, Inc.'s Safety Poster Contest Announced.

ALLENTOWN, Pa., Nov. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- PP&L, Inc. has selected 31 winners from nearly 6,200 entries in this year's Electrical Safety Poster Contest for students in kindergarten through 12th grade in schools throughout the company's delivery service area.

For this year's popular contest, students created artwork around the theme "Stay Clear, Stay Safe - Electrical Safety Near Substations." They could use crayons, pencils, paints or computer-generated graphics.

The winners are:

Grades kindergarten through first:

Sarah Kornaski (grand prize), 1st grade, Holy Spirit School, Mt. Carmel; Vincent Castellani (1st place), 1st grade, Valley View School District, Archbald; and Elizabeth Cosgrove (honorable mention), 1st grade, St. Clare's, Scranton.

Second grade:

Michael Volciak (grand prize), Holy Spirit Academy, Hazleton; Kayla Jo Kauffman (1st place), Central Manor Elementary, Washington Boro; and Nicole Spevak (honorable mention), Holy Spirit Academy, Hazleton.

Third grade:

Hilary Westfall (grand prize), Notre Dame Elementary, East Stroudsburg; Christopher Tichy (1st place), Notre Dame Elementary, East Stroudsburg; and Elizabeth Czajkowski (honorable mention), St. Francis of Assisi, Allentown.

Fourth grade:

Jenna Taylor (grand prize), Dingman-Delaware Elementary, Dingman's Ferry; and Courtney Springfield (1st place), St. Joseph Regional Academy, Jim Thorpe.

Fifth grade:

Holly Woodley (grand prize), Abington Heights Middle School, Clarks Summit; Steven Kaprel (1st place), Slatington Elementary School, Slatington; and Brent McPeak (honorable mention), Holy Spirit, Mt. Carmel.

Sixth grade:

Hannah Carey (grand prize), Preston School, Lakewood; Sarah Simpkins (1st place), Annville-Cleona, Annville; and Amanda Tomsky (honorable mention), Fell Elementary, Simpson.

Seventh grade:

Jessica Schwartz (grand prize), Mechanicsburg Area Intermediate, Mechanicsburg; Blake Bonser (1st place), Pocono Mountain Intermediate School South, Swiftwater; Tara Hoffman (honorable mention), C. W. Rice Middle School, Northumberland.

Eighth grade:

Michele Altilio (grand prize), Conestoga Valley Middle School, Lancaster; Nick Andrejack (1st place), East Pennsboro Middle School, Enola; and Megan McGee (honorable mention), East Pennsboro Middle School, Enola.

Ninth Grade:

Molly Stametz (grand prize) and Kevin Major (1st place), both from Southern Columbia Area High School, Catawissa.

Grades 10 through 12:

Beth Delsite (grand prize), 12th grade, Southern Columbia Area High School, Catawissa; Andrea Velas, (1st place), 12th grade, Homeschool, Quakertown; and Cassie Creasy (honorable mention), 11th grade, Southern Columbia Area High School, Catawissa.

Computer graphics, grades sixth through eighth:

Jeff Camlet (grand prize), 6th grade, Notre Dame Elementary, East Stroudsburg

Computer graphics, grades nine through 12:

Jason Vander Duim (grand prize), and Nathan Frack (1st place), both 11th graders at Lehigh Career and Technical Institute, Schnecksville.

PP&L, Inc.'s electrical safety poster contest has attracted thousands of educators and tens of thousands of students during its 14-year history. During the last three years, nearly 25,000 students have participated.

Prizes in the competition are five shares of PP&L Resources, Inc. (NYSE: PPL) stock for grand-prize winners, two shares for first place and one share for honorable mention.

The 12 grand-prize posters will be featured on PP&L, Inc.'s 2000 electrical safety poster calendar that is distributed to all participating schools.

Teachers of grand-prize winners will receive $50 from PP&L for instructional materials and supplies. And all teachers will receive a PP&L, Inc. fan, to let everyone know that they are a "Fan of Electrical Safety." The calendar and fan reinforce PP&L's electrical safety message throughout the year.
