Wineries owing eur 4 MN to vine breeders.

Some wineries owe almost four million euros to vine breeders for the purchased grapes.

Only two wineries of a total of nine, which were deleted from the Register of the Ministry of Agriculture due to their debt, have so far settled their liabilities and are waiting to be given their licenses back.

The State Agricultural Inspectorate says that the debtors are banned from purchasing and processing grapes until they settle their liabilities. They are, however, allowed to export wine and use the profit for paying vine breeders.

Vine breeders warn that the problems with some of the wineries threaten the survival of vine breeding.

"The wineries Povardraie, Vinea and Elenovi still owe us money. Povardarie owes us for the grapes of 2010 and 2011 and Vinea owes us for the grapes since 2009. Wineries are manipulating vine growers and that is bad for the industry considering that the liquidity of farmers has been reduced by 20-30 percent. The current policy of some wineries is wrong sand therefore they will soon face a shortage of grapes," says farmer Ljupco Arizanov.

On the other hand, certain wineries, such as Skovin, paid for the purchased grapes in advance this year, too.
