Wine rack.

Frascati Superiore, Sainsbury's, pounds 4.49. Ignore the naff, dumpy bottle and, instead, enjoy the delights of a pale gold drop that's anything but that faded, dusty Frascati offering in many Italian restaurants. Crisp, lively, with a chalky, citrus smack.

Valpolicella Classico, Marks & Spencer, pounds 3.99. Very light, but tasty. It has a sweet/sour tang combo to get tastebuds jumping. Light, refreshing, with sharp cherry fruit and a touch of cola. Perfect pizza partner or for warm weather sipping.

Elysium, Great Grog (0131 444 2332), pounds 6.79. What? That much for a half bottle. It's a corker of a lightly fortified Californian sweetie from Black Muscat grape. Looks like Ribena, tastes like heaven. Think of fruit gums and tingling tangy acidity.

WINE OF THE WEEK

West Coast Ruby Cabernet/Merlot, Tesco, pounds 4.79. Massively purple, massively tasty, this Californian is a black cherry chocolate gateau in a bottle. Also has an astringent, peppery kick to keep your gums gagging for more of this gutsy glugger.
