Williams claims Welsh crown; BOWLS Williams.

AMY Williams, 18, has become the new WLIBA Ladies Singles Champion of Champions winner at Bodelwyddan Castle in north Wales.

The Cynon Valley Indoor Bowls player came through a strong field of ladies singles champions from across Wales to lift the prestigious title.

Her first round game saw her defeat Port Talbot's Marilyn Davies 7-1 7-2, but her next couple of games were much closer affairs as she edged out Denise Molan 7-3, 5-7, 7-5 and Paula Summerfield 7-6, 2-7, 7-4.

Williams then faced Caroline Taylor of Severn Valley and came through that game 8-9, 9-2, 9-5 and only Gemma Amos of the Heatherton Club from Tenby stood in the way of her first major Welsh title.

This time, Williams was in no mood for any close games and dispatched her opponent 9-4, 9-1 to claim the crown.

Afterwards, a delighted Williams said: "I did not think I would ever win something like this, but I am over the moon."
