Williams RE records 14 summer lease deals.

Williams Real Estate Company, Inc. announced that this summer it brokered 14 leased agreements for office and retail space.

The agreements, which cover nearly 173,000 square feet of space at 12 Manhattan sites, as well as two suburban locations within the metropolitan area, are valued at more than $25 million. Properties are being leased to such diverse tenants as Dean & DeLuca (purveyors of gourmet food), the Sam Goody's music store chain, and Paine Webber securities traders and investment advisors.

In a sign that the city's publishing industry is regaining confidence after suffering through the nation's economic slump, three major publishing firms also completed Williams-brokered lease arrangements.

They are: U.S. News & World Reports, which is leasing more than 48,000 square feet of space at 1290 Avenue of the Americas for a new location for its executive offices; Worth Publishing, Inc., which will have its corporate office in over 16,230 square feet of space at 3 Irving Place; and Ziff Communications, which has expanded its lease by 10,300 square feet of space at One Park Avenue.

Other lease agreements brokered by Williams include Cartwright & Goodwin securities firm; Dornbush Mandelstam & Silverman, a law firm; Integraph Corporation, the supplier of solutions for enterprise-wide computer graphics and technical information management; La Linergie, a retail store; MJI Communications, a radio production center; Non-Ferrous International Corporation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mitsubishi International Corp.; and Toho Gas, a utility company.

The Musicland Group, parent company to the Sam Goody music retail chain, leased two locations including 25,000 square feet of space at 1211 Avenue of the Americas and a 7,425-square-foot store in New Jersey at the Morris Hills Shopping Center.

Dean and DeLuca has leased 6,500 square feet of space at One Wall Street Court, in which it will operate a gourmet food store and espresso cafe.

Paine Webber, Inc. has leased 5,871 square feet of space to accommodate an expansion of its business in Radnor, Pennsylvania.
