William R. Seaver Sr.
Mr. Seaver was born Nov. 21, 1930 in Springfield the son of the late Harold D. and Marion (Thompson) Seaver. He had been a resident of Douglas most of his life before moving to Uxbridge a month ago.
Mr. Seaver was employed as a lineman for New England Power & Mass Electric in Worcester for more than 40 years before his retirement in 1993. He had also been the dispatcher for the Douglas Police Dept. for 23 years and assisted with the Douglas Mobile Unit Search & Rescue Team.
Mr. Seaver was a graduate of Auburn High School and attended Quinsigamond Community College and the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester.
Mr. Seaver was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving during the Korean War as a Boiler Technician 2nd Class. He served on the USS Roanoke and the USS Missouri ("Big Mo"). Mr. Seaver crossed the Artic Circle on Sept. 16, 1952.
Mr. Seaver was a founder of the Compassionate Friends in Dudley and was the chapter leader for 17 years. He was also the chapter leader in Worcester for many years. He was the Past Master of the Mumford River Lodge AF & AM in Douglas. Mr. Seaver was the Past District Deputy of the Masonic District and a member of the Worcester Scottish Rite. William was Past Patron of the Miriam Chapter # 23 Order of the Eastern Star of Oxford, formerly of Douglas. He was a foster parent to the Children's Friends Society in Worcester. He was also a longtime member of the Second Congregational Church in Douglas. Mr. Seaver enjoyed many years playing the role of Santa Claus at Christmas for the children at the Mumford River Lodge.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons; William T. Seaver Jr. and his wife Joanne Barry Seaver of Uxbridge, Gary D. and his wife Debra Seaver of Linwood, Mark M. and his wife Lauren E. Seaver of Sterling, one sister; Elaine Peters of Leicester and 7 grandchildren; William T. Seaver III, Heather L. Boydon, Melissa A. Seaver, Marie R. Daby, Melanie R. Seaver, Matthew D. Seaver, Eric R. Seaver, 4 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by one son, David G. Seaver and one grandson, Sean D. Seaver.
Funeral services with Full Military Honors will be held on Fri. Aug. 28, 2009 at 10 AM in the Second Congregational Church, Main St. Douglas, MA 01516. Interment will follow in North Cemetery, Main St., Oxford. Visiting hours will be Thurs. Aug. 27, 2009 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM in the BUMA FUNERAL HOME, 101 North Main St. (Rt. 122), Uxbridge, MA 01569. A Masonic Service will be offered at 7 PM Thurs. Aug. 27, 2009 under the direction of the Mumford River Lodge. Donations may be made to the William T. Seaver Sr. Memorial Scholarship Fund, C/O Mumford River Lodge AF & AM, 7 Depot St. P.O.
