Will Chris be going up north?

Byline: By Matt Withers Wales on Sunday

For any political wonks reading, who may be venturing up to the cobbled streets of Manchester today for the Labour Party conference, keep an eye out for one Welsh MP.

Rhondda member Chris Bryant, the former Blairite who turned on his leader by co-ordinating a letter calling for him to quit - and sparking a disgraceful-yet-entertaining blood-letting episode - is rumoured to be staying at home.

He is likely to be joined in this by SiOn Simon, the Gwynedd-born MP for Birmingham Erdington, who was Bryant's partner-in-crime in the whole operation and is equally unlikely to be invited for a night out down Salford Quays with Mr Tony.

One whip was reported as saying: 'They should be hung, drawn and quartered with their heads stuck on pikestaffs in the conference hall,' which would at least be a tad more entertaining than a week of deadly dull speeches about 'renewal'.
