Wild Republic offers interactive bird-watching. (EduNet: Internet * Web * online content and services).
The third annual Wild Republic Learning Adventure features free educational materials for teachers, including teachers' guides, lesson plans and classroom activities. This year's theme, developed with the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, revolves around birds. Designed to enrich the students' understanding of bird characteristics and habitats, the adventure is divided into age-appropriate units for students in grades K-8. The elementary unit features lesson plans on bird-watching, local and regional species, and bird story time. The middle school unit guides students through the process of becoming amateur ornithologists by designing and conducting their own research projects and presenting the results in a scientific paper. Classroom activities range from bird-watching in local parks to writing bird-related stories. All materials are free and can be found online at www.wildrepublic.com/lessonplans. Also online, accredited schools can request two free plush Audubon birds--realistic-looking beanbag birds that make the authentic bird call of each species. Wild Republic, www.wildrepublic.com.
