Art and Max are two lizards who share a love of painting. Unfortunately their skills leave something to be desired and so their initial attempts create some unexpected results. Wiesner's distinctive artistic style is a joyous expression of colour and humour. The colour and texture of the creatures in the spreads brilliantly complement the beauty of the desert backgrounds. There is an aesthetic elegante that lifts the book above many of its peers .The landscape format with page designs constructed to give maximum impact to the unfolding havoc of the tale are wonderfully satisfying to the eye. Wiesner has done it again. Age 6+ years.

(a) An outstanding book of its kind as recommended by the reviewer
