Wichita Grand Opera offers second chance for romance with the Merry Widow.
WICHITA-Everyone deserves a second chance at finding true love. And if your true love just happens to be the wealthiest widow in the country, even better! This Valentine's weekend, Wichita Grand Opera (WGO) is offering not just one but two chances to find romance, with two performances of Franz Lehar's The Merry Widow at 7pm Feb. 12-13.
The story centers on a young widow, Hanna Glawari, from the tiny--and fictional--European country of Marsovia, who recently inherited her late husband's entire fortune. When Hanna runs into the Count Danilo, an old flame, in Paris the Count's countrymen insist it is his duty to marry the widow and keep her fortune in Marsovia. With gorgeous music, hilarious plot twists, and a surprise ending, The Merry Widow is a perfect treat for Valentine's Day.
Wichita audiences were last treated to The Merry Widow 24 years ago by Music Theatre of Wichita. This new production by Wichita Grand Opera promises to combine the best of opera, music theater, and ballet, with a full-sized orchestra and a combination of opera-quality voices, Broadway veterans, and WGO's excellent ballet corps.
Single Tickets are still available from $35-$85 by visiting the WGO Box Office, 3rd Floor, Century II, or by calling 316.262.8054.
