BANANAS are a favourite of athletes for their energy-giving properties but many scientists claim they have health benefits too:

Nerves: bananas are high in Vitamin B which calms the nervous system

Heart burn: bananas have a natural antacid effect Blood pressure: bananas arehigh in potassium yet low in salt

Smoking: high levels of A, B and C vitamins plus potassiumand magnesium can help the body recover from nicotine withdrawal.

Strokes: researchers claim that eating bananas can cut the risk of death by strokes by 40 per cent.

Hangovers: a banana milkshake will calm the stomach, build up blood sugar levels and rehydrate the system.

Morning sickness: helps main-tain blood sugar levels.

Mosquito bites: rub the bite with the inside of a banana skin.
