Why are we litter louts? Letters.

WHY are we a nation of litter louts with no respect for our environment or other people? Walk through any supermarket car park and you find empty pop cans fast food wrappers and millions of cigarette ends often just inches away from a litter bin.

Drive down any country road and you see litter covering trees and grass verges.

This seems to be a very British problem - I spent many years living in Canada and couldn't help but notice how clean and litter free it is compared to Britain. Western Europe countries are also clean and tidy and don't appear to suffer litter louts gladly.

Is it because we have no respect for ourselves that we can't respect others. Or is it because we expect the state to clean up after us just as we expect the state to look after our welfare from cradle to grave.
