Why am I so flatulent?
Symptoms: You belch a lot, particularly after eating and have a feeling of fullness in your stomach.
You pass a lot of gas and your lower abdomen feels distended. It''s worse after eating dairy products.
You have lots of gas, abdominal pain, bouts of diarrhoea and constipation.
It could be: You're swallowing air while you're eating, quite often because you're talking a lot.
Lactose intolerance where you're short of the intestinal enzyme lactase, which digests milk.
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), where your gut is hypersensitive and may go into spasm, causing pain.
Stop it: Concentrate on eating, chewing and swallowing, cut down on talking and avoid fizzy drinks.
There's no need to stop eating dairy products altogether but try to reduce them. it doesn't work, consult your doctor for tests.
