Why Women Must Lead from a New Perspective.
Pava is a 32-year veteran of Federation and until May 2013 chaired the Women's Philanthropy campaign in Greater Hartford. She is known as a leader who embraces Hakarat Ha'tov, a Hebrew phrase for 'recognizing the good in each other—and doing better'. Hakarat Ha'tov will be the theme of her campaign nationally. “I have learned so much from the women I have met in Greater Hartford, and honestly from women all over the world. I am looking forward to learning more and sharing it all as we re-envision our campaigns,” says Pava.
As chair of National Women's Philanthropy, Pava now represents hundreds of thousands of donors globally: almost 17,000 Lions of Judah and more than 3500 Lion of Judah Endowments, all of which comprise an annual campaign of over $160 million a year. At the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford (www.jewishhartford.org), women's gifts account for 30 percent of the Annual Campaign. This year, Hartford-area Lions of Judah went beyond their regular gifts to make a supplemental gift to the PJ Library (www.pjlibrary.org), which mails free Jewish books and music to families. In two months, Greater Hartford women raised an additional $90,000 to support this community program.
“Ann is recognized as a motivating force in the community. She respects differences and embraces new ideas,” says Cathrine Schwartz, president and CEO of the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford.
In addition to her work in Greater Hartford, Pava has been a Jewish Federation president in Springfield, Massachusetts. She is the founding president of the Hebrew High School of New England (www.hhne.org), a school that serves three Jewish Federation communities, Western Massachusetts, Greater Hartford and Greater New Haven, Connecticut. She has travelled to Israel more than 20 times. Six years ago, she was appointed to the National Women's Philanthropy Board.
“Ann's forward-thinking leadership has been a huge asset to Greater Hartford,” said Eric Zachs, Engagement/Campaign chair. “In the spirit of hakarat ha'tov, we wish her continued greatness in her new role.”
The Jewish Federations of North America represents 154 Jewish Federations and over 300 Network communities, which raise and distribute more than $3 billion annually for social welfare, social services and educational needs.
