Why I love the A4086.

'LIVING in south Anglesey, with views of Snowdonia from my home, I have lost count of the number of times we made a spur-of-the-moment decision to jump in the car and head for the hills - usually along the A4086 - joining it from the B4547 at Brynrefail, at one end of Padarn Lake.

'Around every bend the views are something to marvel at. On one side of the lake at Llanberis, home to a host of tourist attractions such as a lakeside railway, slate museum and Snowdon mountain railway, is the towering disused Dinorwig Slate quarry.

'Then you have Dolbadarn Castle before climbing steadily to Penypass, a starting point for thousands of climbers and hill walkers who can't resist the magnetic lure of Snowdon, Wales' highest peak.

'My favourite times of the year to drive the A4086 are spring and autumn. It is quieter and more relaxing and the seasons' change of colours are amazing
