Where are soap star favourities now?
PAUL HENRY PAUL played handyman Benny Hawkins from 1975 to 1988. The simple-minded character was famous for his woolly hat and love for Miss Diane. Paul was born in Aston, Birmingham in 1947, went to school in Shard End with Jeff Lynne and was trained at Birmingham Rep. Paul now lives in Shropshire. He played a delivery man in Bad Girls and makes regular stage appearances, including playing Tony Hancock.
JANE ROSSINGTON AS Jill Richardson, Jane spoke the first words in Crossroads as she answered the phone with "Crossroads Motel, good evening".
She was the only actor to remain in it for the entire series, also speaking the final words in 1988. She was the daughter of owner Meg Richardson and was put through the mill, as a drug addict and alcoholic who was married three times, once bigamously. Jane, 71, now lives in Staffordshire with her second husband, chartered surveyor David Dunger.
TONY ADAMS TONY played womanising accountant Adam Chance for 10 years from 1978. He was recast as Adam when Crossroads was revived in 2001.
Now 73, he lives in Brighton with his partner Christine. After Crossroads he appeared on TV in The Grimleys, The Upper Hand and Doctors and played Grandpa Potts in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang for 18 months at the London Palladium.
GABRIELLE DRAKE GABRIELLE played Nicola Freeman, the glamorous new owner of Crossroads who took over in 1985 when new locations, sets and characters were introduced as David and Barbara Hunter were axed.
Aged 70 and the sister of the late musician Nick Drake, she lives in Much Wenlock in Shropshire. She has continued to act on stage and has appeared in Doctors and in Coronation Street as Vanessa, who met Bill Webster at a singles night.
SUE NICHOLLS WALSALL-BORN Sue played waitress Marilyn Gates in Crossroads from 1964 to 1968 and even had a hit record, when the song she sang, Where Will You Be?, charted. She went on to star in The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin and Rentaghost before joining Coronation Street as Audrey Roberts in 1985. She is married to Mark Eden, who played baddie Alan Bradley in the soap.
