When 5cm makes the world of a difference.

A TRUCK driver got into a bit of a squeeze yesterday when his lorry, carrying a massive power station funnel, got stuck under a bridge on the main Kofinou road.

The driver, working for a private transport company, had picked up the funnel from Limassol port and was making his way along the Kofinou slaughterhouse road when his cargo got stuck under a bridge.

According to Larnaca Press Agency, the driver had miscalculated the height of his cargo by around five centimetres. After a concerted effort by police and his colleagues the driver was able to remove the truck from under the bridge. A crane had to be called so that the funnel could be placed on a lower truck and make a second effort to pass under the bridge.

The funnel was slightly damaged as a result of the tight squeeze while, according to Kofinou police, the bridge structure remains intact.
