Whatmore warns Pak against complacency in series against 'minnows' Zimbabwe.

Islamabad, Aug 17 ( ANI ): Pakistan coach Dav Whatmore has warned his team not to be complacent when they face the low-ranked Zimbabwe side next week in a tour considered important for new players.

According to the Daily Times, Pakistan will play two Twenty20s, three one-dayers and two Tests against Zimbabwe, with the first of the T20s being on August 23 and the last Test scheduled to start on September 10.

The report further said that Pakistan is well ahead in terms of rankings of Zimbabwe, which is without a ranking in Tests as the team has not played the required number of matches, and are ranked 10th in ODIs and 12th in T20s.

However, Whatmore advised his team not to get complacent and take Zimbabwe lightly in any format in the series as the games are very important for them, although he added that his side is training hard for the series.

Stating that Pakistan should take one game at a time in the series even though they clean swept Zimbabwe in all three formats on their last tour in 2011, Whatmore also said that despite the gap in rankings between the two nations, they cannot take anything for granted as cricket has the tendency to show uncertain glories in the game.

According to Whatmore, new players would add interest to the series as they tend to change the balance and the approach by them getting used to the coach and the coach getting used to him.

Backing T20 captain Mohammad Hafeez who has struggled for form lately, Whatmore also said that Hafeez has done very well in the format that he captains and has led the team up the rankings, although he added that he needed to score more runs.

Whatmore also said that the appointment of former captain Moin Khan as manager, who criticised Whatmore's own appointment as coach in the past, would benefit the team as Khan came from a very strong playing background. ( ANI )
