What a Lotti City rubbish.

AS Nike's 'creative director for global football', you would hardly expect Martin Lotti to under-sell Manchester City's new dark purple 'cup away kit', never to be confused with the club's navy blue actual away kit.

And Mr Lotti does not disappoint. 'Under a dark sky, these kits will look electric, as if powered by batteries, and will provide an almost electric flash of colour on the pitch,' said Mr Lotti, who added that the lime-green stripe on the PS60 shirt 'will accentuate a sense of speed when the players are in motion'.

You'd struggle to find a Manchester City fan who'd wish away the wealth of Abu Dhabi's royal family.

Yet when Mr Lotti starts gibbering, they might just pine a little for those earthier days when hefty cult heroes like Jamie Pollock and Andy Morrison might have benefited from some limegreen go-faster stripes.
