Q I TWISTED my ankle painfully for the first time playing football last year. I bandaged it up, rested and stopped playing for three weeks but I've sprained it twice more since. My ankle feels weak and a little clumsy. Can you offer any advice?

A Laurence Kirk, Osteopath at the British College of Naturopathy and Osteopathy says: It sound like you may have stretched and torn some of the ligaments.

Usually it takes six to eight weeks for full repair so you may not have allowed sufficient time in the first place. Your ankle joint is rich in specialised movement sensors which continually feed information back to the brain.

It is possible the movement sensors have become a little lazy because of your relative inactivity, which is why your ankle may feel clumsy.

An osteopath will be able to advise you on strengthening exercises and check the function of the joints in your ankle, knee, hip and back which may all have a role to play. To improve the co-ordination you could use a wobble board (a balancing device). In addition advice may be given on the use of hot and cold packs and dietary factors such as vitamin C and bioflavenoids.

Q MY baby boy is suffering terribly from toothache. I'm worried about the amount of Calpol I'm having to give him. Any suggestions?

A Homeopath Vicky Burley says: Homeopathy is safe and very effective for treating babies if the right remedy is selected. If in any doubt, contact a homeopath.

Here are some common remedies for toothache. Select the one that most closely corresponds to his symptoms.

Chamomilla - The No 1 teething remedy. He screams with pain and refuses what he is offered. He wants to be covered and carried. One cheek is red and hot, the other is pale and cold.

Accompanied by green diarrhoea with odour of rotten eggs. Gums are red.

Aconitum Napellus - If he seems fearful and his skin is hot and dry. The pain comes suddenly with high fever and convulsions. He gnaws his fists, frets and cries. He is sleepless, excited and tosses about in bed.

Belladonna- Attacks of pain come on and cease suddenly. The face is very hot and red and the pupils may be dilated.

Kreosotum - Very painful teething during which the child will not sleep unless caressed.

Phytolacca - He wants to bite on anything and this seems to help.

Calcarea Phosphorica - Teething is very slow and accompanied by green diarrhoea, coughs or colds.
