The 65th season of the Lucerne Festival. Sommer will open on August 14, 2003 with Claudio Abbado conducting the newly created Lucerne Festival Orchestra in a gala concert. The theme of Sommer 2003 "ICH" will depict a profile of human existence throughout the concert cycles. Lucerne festival presents two composers-in-residence-Heiner Goebbels and Isabel Mundry--as well as two "artistes etolies": Swiss cellist composer, and festival director Thomas Demenga, and Hamburg GMD Ingo Metzmacher. ASCONA JAZZ FESTIVAL

New Orleans Jazz Ascona is today one of the two big world events devoted to traditional jazz. During its 18 years of existence, the festival has hosted many legends of New Orleans Jazz, as well as the principal artists on the traditional and classical jazz scene worldwide. The concerts range from traditional New Orleans to Chicago-style jazz, from swing to mainstream, including ragtime, gospel, blues, and R&B. This year's festival will run from 27 June-8 July. From 31 July-10 August, the streets of Geneva will come alive for the annual Geneva festival.

1 August: election of Miss Geneva Festival.

2 August: Lake Parade & Lake Sensation: large techno event with 20 vehicles parading as of 15h.

3 August: cafe waiters' race at 16:00 along the quays.

9 August: Cycle race 'Grand Prix de Geneve' from 13:30-17:00. Great musical Fireworks at 22:00.

10 August at 15:00: Children's Parade. On a permanent basis: fun fair on both banks of the lake, Children's Island on the Ile Rousseau, free open-air concerts at the Theatre de Verdure every night at 21:00.
