What's happening... Music.

DON'T Explain is the debut collaboration between American singer-songwriter BETH HART and the brilliant Blues guitarist JOE BONAMASSA.

It's a collection of soul covers - due to be released in the UK in September - combining Hart's raspy and heartfelt vocals with Bonamassa's unique guitar sound.

Expect some great versions of songs by Gil Scott-Heron, Tom Waits, Etta James and Aretha Franklin. Following THE STRAITS' recent debut show at the Royal Albert Hall in May, Alan Clark, Phil Palmer and Chris White (from Dire Straits) are off on an 11-date UK tour in October.

They will perform songs from classic Dire Straits' albums including Communiqu, Love Over Gold and - naturally - the legendary Brothers In Arms.

The tour takes in Birmingham Symphony Hall (Oct 3), Glasgow Royal Concert Hall (Oct 4), Newcastle City Hall (Oct 5), York Barbican (Oct 7), Cardiff St David's Hall (Oct 9), Bristol Colston Hall (Oct 10), London HMV Hammersmith Apollo (Oct 12), Ipswich Regent (Oct 13), Nottingham Royal Concert Hall (Oct 14), Liverpool Philharmonic Hall (Oct 16), and Manchester's 02 Apollo (Oct 17).

IMELDA MAY starts her month-long UK tour at Cardiff University in November before heading to York, Manchester, Brighton and Blackpool.

She finishes in Scotland with gigs in Glasgow and Edinburgh on November 29 and 30.

A month earlier THE SPECIALS will be playing two nights in Wolverhampton during their sell-out 13-venue tour which ends at London's Alexandra Palace.

On the folk front, PENTANGLE will be playing the Southbank Centre in London on August 1.

OYSTERBAND and JUNE TABOR play the same venue on September 14.

And fans of the Beach Boys will be able to catch BRIAN WILSON at the centre on September 16, 17 and 18 when he and his band will play a selection of Gershwin hits.
