What's New for 2002: The Latest Releases for the New Year.

NEW GUNS AND AMMO

Beretta

The Beretta 9000S Type F autoloading pistols are available in 9mmX19, 9mmX21IMI and .40 S&W single and double-action. Each has a 3.4-inch barrel, no matter the caliber. Magazine capacity is 12 for the 9mm and 10 for the .40 S&W, with consideration for various legal restrictions on magazine capacities. The 9000S Type D pistols, double-action only, have similar specifications.

Another new offering is the 92 Vertec which features a 1911 straight backstrap grip frame, a shortened trigger and a rail for mounting accessories such as laser and light devices.

Finally there is the .22 LR six-inch target Model 87. It has excellent adjustable sights and a rail for mounting scopes and electronic sight.

Ed Brown Products

The Kobra and Kobra carry (referred to as a Commander Bobtail) from Ed Brown pretty much cover the "high-end" carry spectrum of 1911s. Both feature a premium grade match barrel, Novak night sights, an extended safety and a Commander-style slotted hammer. Both feature Brown's Snakeskin checkering on the frame mainspring housing and slide.

Colt's Manufacturing Company

As mentioned in last month's issue this old company is still in business and continues to offer handguns for civilian sale. While there is nothing new to announce at the moment handguns such as various configurations of the 1911 are still being made. Other models of note are the Cowboy single action while the Python is still available from the custom shop.

CZ-USA

The CZ 100 autoloading pistol features a polymer frame and high-capacity magazine. The pistol is available in 9mm Luger or .40 S&W, with a magazine capacity of 10. Barrel length is 3.86 inches and the rear sight is adjustable for windage and elevation. The trigger mechanism is double-action only.

Glock

The Model 35 in .40 S&W has a potential magazine of 10, 15 or 17, depending legal restrictions and usage. The compensated barrel is 5.32 inches long, the gun it has a polymer frame and adjustable rear sight for competition.

Heckler & Koch

The new H&K USP40 Expert in .40 S&W is a tactical pistol with a special jet funnel magazine well extension to speed reloading with its 16-round magazine. Barrel length is 5.2 inches and the rear sight is fully micro-adjustable. (Civilian sales are restricted to 10-round magazines. Tritium sights are optional. Magnum Research

Big bore handgun shooters will see the Desert Eagle pistol design in their new Mark XIX Conponent System. The buyer may switch from .357 Mag. To .44 Mag. To .440CorBon to .50 Action Express calibers. Oregon Trail Bullets

SIG Arms

Commemorating the 10th anniversary of the Hunting and Shooting Sports Heritage Fund, SIG Arms is producing the P229 pistol in .40 S&W. The limited edition pistol features brushed stainless steel slide with gold engraving, gold accents and figured wood grips. The stainless steel slide is engraved, "SIG Sauer P229" on the left side and "10th Anniversary P229, 1992-2002" in gold on the right side. News of new products from S&W concentrates on the new scandium metal alloy frames, combined with titanium cylinders for lightweight revolvers in .357 Magnum. Springfield Armory

Two new pistols based on the Government Model 1911-Al from Springfield Armory Trophy Match and the Professional Model. The Trophy Match is available in .45 ACP, blued or stainless, or in .40 S&W Armory Kote finish. Sturm, Ruger

The "new handgun news" from Sturm Ruger is single action in nature and includes a nifty Vaquero variant with a 3 3/4 inch barrel and a black Micarta bird's head grip. Both of these compact six-shot powerhouses come in .45 Long Colt and can be had in stainless or with a color casehardened frame with blued cylinder and barrel. The other surprise is the return of the New Model Super Blackhawk Hunter, which features a 7 1/2 inch barrel with an integral full length solid rib machined to accept the standard Ruger stainless steel scope rings supplied with each gun. Grips are smooth, black laminated wood. The caliber is .44 Magnum, naturally.

Taurus

Walther

Boker

Said to be the only knife manufacturer using 5 15 T.N stainless steel, the new Boker Orca sheath knife design had input from the German GSG-9 special forces unit. Among the new models from Spyderco this year is the C64 Meerkat Clipit. The earlier Meerkat had a modified clip point blade, with an S-style (Cricket-like) blade for 2002. Butler Creek

Winchester Muzzleloading

Winchester enters the black powder market with new Supreme Partition Gold sabot bullets and W209 primers. The bullets in .45 caliber weigh 260 grains, housed in a plastic sabot for use in .50 caliber muzzleloading rifles. The W209 shotgun primers are packed in packs of 100 intended for muzzleloading rifles.
