West Suburban Health Care Appoints Jay Kreuzer as New President and CEO.

OAK PARK, Ill.--(BW HealthWire)--Dec. 5, 2000

Following an extensive national search, the Board of Directors of West Suburban Health Services has appointed Jay E. Kreuzer as the new President and Chief Executive Officer of the organization.

Kreuzer has been the President of St. Francis Hospital & Health Center in Blue Island, Illinois, a 410-bed facility, since 1993.

Donald Offermann, Ph.D., Chairman of the Board of Directors of West Suburban Health Services, states, "West Suburban is a strong community hospital with an 86 year tradition of care. Jay Kreuzer will be an outstanding leader for our organization. He comes to us with extensive experience and an impressive record of achievements. We are confident that Jay is the right person to continue to move West Suburban forward in an ever-changing health care environment." Kreuzer will officially join West Suburban on January 15, 2001.

During Kreuzer's tenure at St. Francis Hospital & Health Center, the hospital achieved JCAHO Accreditation with Commendation, was ranked 7th in Chicago for Overall Quality, ranked no. 1 in Chicago for Quality of Cardiac Services, ranked in top 100 Hospitals Nationally for Quality in Cardiac Services, and was a 1999 finalist for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award.

Kreuzer served as President of Good Samaritan Regional Health Center, a 200-bed facility, located in Mount Vernon, Illinois, from 1988 to 1993. He served as Vice President of Operations at St. Francis - Blue Island from 1984 to 1988. And, from 1979 to 1983 he served as Interim President and Executive Vice President at Bixby Medical Center in Adrian, MI.

He received a Bachelor of Science from Valparaiso University, Valparaiso, Indiana, and a Masters in Hospital and Health Administration from Xavier University, Cincinnati, Ohio.

Kreuzer is 48 years old and currently resides in Frankfort, IL with his wife, Jean. They have 2 children. The family plans to move into the community served by West Suburban.

Of the search for new president and CEO, Offermann explains, "The Board began our search for a new president and CEO last spring. Using a deliberate and thorough search process we attracted a number of high caliber executives and we feel that we've found an exceptional leader in Jay."

West Suburban Health Care has been under the leadership of Robert E. Landsman, who has served as the interim president and CEO since the end of February. Prior to his appointment as interim president and CEO, Landsman was the senior vice president of finance and administration for West Suburban.

During Landsman's tenure as interim president and CEO, West Suburban Health Care has continued to mark significant accomplishments, including: opening the area's first freestanding Center for Breast Care and Women's Health in March, 2000; developing a Senior Wellness Center at the Oak Park Arms Retirement Community in August, 2000; and, opening the Center for Integrative Medicine in September, 2000.

West Suburban Health Services is a not-for-profit organization, headquartered in Oak Park, Illinois.
