West Group acquires The Harrison Company.

West Group (Eagan, MN), a unit of Thomson Corp., has acquired all the assets of The Harrison Company (Suwanee, GA), a 94-year-old legal publisher of monographs, treatises and forms for seven southeastern U.S. states, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee and Virginia. No terms of the deal were given.

West said the acquired assets will be integrated into the company's print and online offerings and that Harrison will close and all 60 employees will be laid off. Harrison publishes a variety of titles including: "Brown's Georgia Pleading Practice and Legal Forms," "Daniel's Criminal Trial Practice and Evidence in Georgia," "Tarwick's Florida Practice & Procedure," "Sullivan's North Carolina TrialPractice Forms" and "Garrett's Tennessee Divorce and Child Custody." While some of the forms are on CD--ROM and disk, most of the products are available only in print.

West president Mike Wilens said geography played a factor in the purchase. "The Southeast: is a key growth area and we are committed to providing practitioners in this region with the most comprehensive research tools" available anywhere.
