West Central Division states are gearing up for the MTNA Division Competitions at the Strauss Performing Arts Center on the University of Nebraska at Omaha campus, January 13-15, 2006. Ken Bales, NCTM, Nebraska MTA president, is the local site chair, and Roger Foltz, NCTM, NMTA president-elect, is the facilities chair. Division Competitions Chair Diana Skroch, NCTM, will provide a schedule for participants by mid-December. Please refer to page 62 of the October/November 2005 AMT for hotel and shuttle information. A heartfelt thank-you is extended to all who contributed to the success of the individual state competitions.Plans are under way for the West Central Division No-Host Dinner at the MTNA Conference in Austin. Each state president will have information to share about this annual social event. The dinner continues by popular demand and is a great opportunity for enjoying a fine meal and meeting division colleagues.
Nebraska MTA held its annual conference in Omaha in October. Leon Bates, the conference artist, premiered the work of Nebraska's commissioned composer, Erik Ewazen of the Juilliard School. Winners of the Nebraska MTNA competitions were featured in a special concert.
Members of the Missouri MTA welcomed seven nominees for the StAR (Student Achievement Recognition) Award to their state conference in November. As a way of encouraging new, young members, national dues for StAR Award recipients are waived for one year.
