Wenatchee Valley Hospital ranked high by patients.

Wenatchee Valley Hospital ranked in the 99th percentile in a recent patient satisfaction survey. WVH is part of Wenatchee Valley Medical Center.

WVH began working in July 2007 with a new company to assess patient satisfaction with their care after a hospital stay, according to Kevin Gilbert, director of operations at WVH. The company, Press Ganey, works with more than 7,000 health care organizations, including nearly 50 percent of U.S. hospitals.

WVH recently received scores from the first quarter of patient surveys. In comparison to nearly 2,000 hospitals, WVH ranked in the 99th percentile. Patients are asked about physicians, nurses, rooms, food, admission and discharge process, among other topics.

And while surveying patients has always been an important part of hospital management, the level of sophistication has increased significantly by going with Press Ganey.

An increasing number of hospitals are participating in patient surveys to gauge patient satisfaction and improve service. Press Ganey processed 9.5 million surveys last year alone.

Hospitals' HCAHPS results will be posted on the Hospital Compare Web site at, or through a link on www.Medicare. gov.
