ST LOUIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 8, 2003

WenAmerica, L.L.C. one of the nation's largest Wendy's franchisee's, today announced that it is in the final stage of remodeling thirty three "Wendy's Old Fashioned Hamburgers" restaurants. "The project has been a 5 year remodel program to reimage a large portion of our portfolio," stated Ronald F. Saverin, WenAmerica's CEO. The first Wendy's opened in the St. Louis market in 1976 at Halls Ferry and had not been remodeled in 25 years. The new look incorporates many of the curb appeal features found in the new Wendy's architecture. In addition to the clean lines of the exterior, the interior has been remodeled with new tile, wallpaper, carpet, ceiling tiles, lighting, counters, menu boards, and in many cases new updated kitchen equipment.

"We have seen a tremendous increase in sales since our purchase of the Wendy's franchise in 1998," stated Saverin. "Our sales have increased over 33%, in a business where 3.5% increases are considered good and where our competitors have been seeing serious sales declines."

In addition to the remodel program, WenAmerica has been relocating stores and building new stores. It currently has two new stores under construction due to open in February and April, 2003. The Company is in the planning stage for five additional stores in 2003.

The remodeling of these restaurants and the building of seven new restaurants in 2003 is consistent with the Company's previously announced long-term development schedule. "We remain focused on new store growth, restaurant operations and our real estate development efforts," stated Saverin.

WenAmerica operates throughout Eastern Missouri and Central Illinois serving over 7 million customers annually. The Wendy's franchise system is the third largest quick-service restaurant hamburger chain in the world with more than 6,100 total units. Wendy's is the leading national, high quality hamburger chain in the quick- service segment.
