Welsh film star to take to the stage at the National Eisteddfod.

ACTOR Matthew Rhys is preparing for his latest starring role - with an orchestra.

Rhys, star of the film The Edge Of Love, will take to the stage with the National Youth Orchestra of Wales, as part of this summer's National Eisteddfod in Cardiff.

Matthew, 33, who was a pupil of Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Glantaf, will provide the first-ever narration in Welsh for Britten's Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra, conducted by Owain Arwel Hughes.

MatthewJones, youth music manager with the orchestra, said: "We're delighted that Matthewis able to join us for this very special performance.

"As a former member of the National Youth Theatre of Wales, Matthewis no stranger to the work of National Youth Arts Wales. It is fantastic for NYOW and the Eisteddfod that he is able to make time in his extremely busy schedule to support us in this way."

Elfed Roberts, chief executive of the Eisteddfod, said: "We're delighted that Matthewis supporting the talented musicians that make up the National Youth Orchestra of Wales. I would encourage the public to go along for what is sure to be a concert of the highest quality."

The concert will be held at St David's Hall, Cardiff, on Thursday, August 7.
