Wellmen take sting out of COBRA.

Byline: By Wales on Sunday

Llandrindod Wells survived a second-half fightback to clinch their place in the final of the Cambrian Training Mid Wales League Cup with a 38-17 win over COBRA.

The league leaders dominated the first half 31-0 with visitors Llanfair Caereinion's second string apparently heading for an emphatic defeat. The Wellmen were caught sleeping in the second half as COBRA grabbed three tries, though a touchdown for the hosts' winger Paul Harris ensured the Wellmen would not be denied.

Full-back Jac Holden led the way for Llandrindod with a brace of first half touchdowns while Tom Underhill, Jonathan Duggan and Ben Dugdale grabbed their other scores and Danny Davies kicked four conversions.

COBRA hit back in the second period through a penalty try, and further scores from Hywel Jones and Geraint Jones, while Matthew Griffiths kicked one conversion.

It kept Llandrindod on track for the double but they face a tougher obstacle in the final when they tackle in-form Builth Wells seconds.

Builth proved too strong for title-chasing Aberystwyth Athletic, running out 34-0 victors in their semi-final at the seaside to boost hopes of lifting some silverware.

Ian Price led the way with two tries while Will Bevan, Adam Rees and Gareth Jones also went over.

Will Leonard kicked three conversions and a penalty.

COBRA will officially open their new clubhouse in Llanfair Caereinion next Saturday when they host a Mid Wales XV (1pm).
