Wellman reports third quarter sales.

Sales for the third quarter of 1992 were recently released by Wellman Inc., Shrewsbury, NJ. Sales were $212.4 million, up from last year's figure of $199.1 million. Earnings rose 22%, from last year's $10.2 million, to $12.4 million.

For the nine months ended September 30, sales rose to $625.3 million compared with 1991's $606.5 million. Net income increased 19% to $38.4 million; in 1991, net income was $32.2 million.

The company credits the increase in sales to higher sales at the Fibers Division, Wellman International Limited (WIL) and the company's Irish fiber operation. The Fibers Division's sales have increased primarily as a result of a higher volume of polyester staple sales.
