Wellman purchases polyester fiber plant.

Late in February, Wellman, Inc., Shrewsbury, NJ, finalized the purchase of KRP Industries' polyester staple fiber plant in Marion, SC. Terms of the purchase were not disclosed.

The Marion plant will be part of Wellman's Fibers Division, which includes polyester fiber production facilities in Darlington and Johnsonville, SC, Fayetteville, NC and Mullagh, Republic of Ireland. The Marion plant has annual production of 32 million pounds and will utilize recycled raw materials supplied by Wellman's Recycling Division to produce polyester staple. The fiber produced will be used primarily for fiberfill and other markets.
