Welcome committee.

Sonia Saraiya was obsessed with "The West Wing" when she was younger. "I thought it meant I wanted to be a politician," she says. "It turned out it meant I wanted to write about TV constantly." She'll put those skills to use as Variety's new TV critic, working alongside chief TV critic Maureen Ryan. Saraiya began her career at the A.V. Club, then joined Salon as TV critic, where she became known for her compelling think pieces. "I'm thrilled she'll be bringing her incisive point of view to our coverage of the ever-expanding TV business," says Debra Birnbaum, Variety's executive editor, TV.
