Weight losers to finally get prizes after 6 months.

Dubai Municipality to give away souvenir gold coins at grand function at Zabeel Park.

Dubai: The Dubai Municipality will give away on March 15 gold prizes for the winners of its slimming contest, six months after the contest ended.

In total, the 7,356 winners of the "Your Child in Gold" campaign reduced 40 tonnes of fat while four persons who shed over 30 kg are the topmost winners.

A 13 year-old boy and a 77 year-old woman, respectively, became the youngest and oldest winners of the contest the municipality ran last summer.

Assistant Director-General of Dubai Municipality Khalid Ali bin Zayed said the municipality will give away 40 kg of gold coins to the winners at a grand celebration to be held at the Zabeel Park on the 15th.

Khaleej Times had earlier reported that many winners were upset about the delay in receiving their gold prizes, the motivation for many of them to take part in Dubai's unique weight loss campaign.

The winners are finally going to receive three types souvenir gold bullion carrying the logo of the campaign and their registration numbers, corresponding to the weight of gold they won.

The prize distribution will begin from 12 noon and the top winners will be honoured by the Director-General of Dubai Municipality Hussain Nasser Lootah, said the official.

"The topmost winner who has lost the highest amount of weight will receive two grams of gold each for every kilo of weight shed," he said.

Similarly, families with a child winner will also get two grams of gold for every kg they burnt. Other individual winners will receive one gram of gold for every kilo shed.

The figures released on Tuesday showed the second edition of the "Your Weight in Gold" drive, which gave away gold coins for slimmers, had 1,410 families winning in the event.

Indians top winners

As per the statistics revealed, Indians topped the list of winners with 5,616 of them coming from the country which loves the yellow metal. Filipinos came second with 1,423 winners, followed by 387 Pakistanis on the third position. Chinese (225), Egyptians (204) and Emiratis (146) followed them. As many as 985 winners were from other countries.
